View from the porch swing

Daily Prompt: Home Sweet Home
When you’re away from home, what person, thing, or place do you miss the most?

Photographers, artists, poets: show us HOME.

It is mid day. A tiny yellow butterfly is fluttering around the bushes. It lands on a random rose. The garden is in full bloom. A few fading pink petals have fallen near the gate. They belong to the rose which has bent towards the gate. The white rose plants are so full with flowers that hardly any green can be seen. The hibiscus plant is sporting huge beautifully saffron-colored flowers. A bulbul lands on the gate. She is distracted by the her male counterpart, perched on the branch of the yellow bells, outside the gate.

The dog is sunbathing in the yard. A rock dove walks around the yard in search of food. The young bird courageously walks up to the dog. The dog ignores it and continues snoozing. The iron chains of the swing makes creaking noises as I continue to swing in the porch.

The butterfly decides to leave. It hovers a little, decides to make a short stop at the blue flowers creeping over the well. It is a pretty picture. I think about going inside and bringing out the camera. My thoughts are interrupted by Grandma, standing in the door. She calls me in for lunch. On hearing this, the dog wakes up, chases his tail, for no apparent reason and promptly follows Grandma in.

I open my eyes. I stop dreaming of home and face a dull reality…

p.s. There were pictures. After a lot of thinking and some input from Gaurab, i decided to remove them. Some other time, a whole post on pictures of home..

That’s a beautiful picture of home you have presented. You hardly need any images to support your writing. πŸ™‚

      Thank you πŸ™‚
I thought a lot about not putting up the pictures and letting imaginations run wild. The photographer in me didn’t allow it πŸ˜‰

Pictures are great in their own way…but your writing stands in its own πŸ™‚

I got a Texas Star porch swing at http://www.patioandporchswings.com. I put it in storage for the winter and love it during the summer.

Cool! Mine stays out all through the year but I don’t get to visit home very often.

This is excellent. IMO, you do not need pictures because your descriptions are the pictures. I also like this because it brings on memories that can happen to anyone at any time. Great take on the prompt.
